Hunting and Territory: Venice, Federcaccia's hunters at work to clean up the rivers and canals of the lagoon on the occasion of the ecological day.
Organized by the provincial Federcaccia of Venice, the Ecological Day was held last Sunday which involved the cleaning of rivers, canals and beaches, from the Bibione Lagoon to Valli di Chioggia, passing through the channel of Lova di Campagnalupia, the Cassa di Colmata in Marghera, the lagoon and the canals of Cavallino Treporti, continuing through the Laguna dei Salsi, the rivers Sile, Piave, the mouths of the Livenza in Caorle, Casoni and the Valle Vecchia side, in Portogruarese the rivers Lemene, Reghena and Loncon and other initiatives, such as Teglio Veneto.
At the end of the day, around 5.000 plastic bags were collected; 21 quintals of materials collected only in Chioggia. During the day 400 Federcacciatori volunteers took to the field with ten tractors and about fifty boats, together with more than 50 sports and voluntary associations, as well as the provincial Ekoclub, Legambiente del VO and the volunteers of the Civil Protection. Concern was expressed by the provincial vice president Luciano Babbo for the worsening of the conditions of the territory involved in the interventions, so much so that to complete the cleaning of the selected areas it would take at least another three days with the same four hundred Federcacciatori.
The dirtiest place ever was in the southern lagoon of Chioggia, along the Romea state road, where in addition to bottles, cans and plastic bags, washing machines, refrigerators, motorboat fenders and much more were found. "In this regard, we allow ourselves a suggestion to the Mayor of Chioggia: the tons of material deposited along the shoreline certainly pollute more than the Sunday car stop on the Sottomarina coast".
The Councilor for hunting and Senator Mario Dalla Tor, having seen the results of the initiative (despite having collected only 20% of the material present), asked Federcaccia to do two days a year, considering the increase in waste compared to past years. In fact, environmental education unfortunately seems to be very out of date both in the north of the Province and in the south, with peaks of incidence in Cassa di Colmata A in Mira and Laguna Sud and in the Salsi lagoon.
At the end of the work, as usual, at each collection point there was a party with a banquet to thank all the participants and strengthen the relations of friendship and collaboration. Thanks to all and to the other 20 municipal administrations present with mayors and councilors and for the presence of the provincial administration.
