On Saturday 5th September, at the welcoming Frantoio di Spello, a training and in-depth day organized by the Arci Caccia dell'Umbria took place. Directors and organizers of the Association, all passionate volunteers, in a modern and useful way, have prepared themselves for the new hunting season and for a better future of hunting. Thanks also to Arci Caccia and to those who choose his card to support their ideas, the passion for hunting wins. During the day, fundamental issues concerning the hunting world were addressed, starting from the methodology to reverse the decline of small sedentary game, to the problem of ungulates and their control. Of no less importance was knowing how to have a correct application of the Birds Directive. The system of relations has made it possible to build a new figure of the hunter useful to the country and gratified in the hunting practice.
A precise analysis of the problems was carried out: the cultural conclusion is that hunting cannot ignore the consistency, the density of each species on a territory, also in relation to the "ars venandi" impact on rural landscapes and agricultural cultures, which are a resource of the Italian and international community
The training day wanted by the Regional Board of the Arci Caccia dell'Umbria, was necessary to investigate the various problems that today affect the hunting world and to draw a line to guarantee a future of growth and improvements to the hunting activity and, at the same time , to propose itself to the new generations.
The topics were addressed by Dr. Roberto Mazzoni della Stella, expert in the management of small sedentary game experienced in the field for many years, by Prof. Bernardino Ragni, zoologist and then by Dr. Umberto Sergiacomi, of the Regional Wildlife Observatory.
The intervention of the regional vice president, Giampiero Amici, concerned the new figure of the hunter with a useful role for the Society for the control and supervision of the territory and for the management and balance between wild species. Giampiero Amici summarized what was already proposed in the final document of the Valserra Festival held in Terni, with a great success of participation and which is planned to be proposed also in 2016.
The interventions of recognized technical and scientific value, much appreciated by those present, highlighted the criticalities of the environment and of the Umbrian rural landscape, such as the abandonment of marginal agricultural areas which resulted in a loss of important agricultural area with the consequence of the decrease. of small sedentary game due to lack of suitable habitats and, on the other hand, the expansion of ungulates, also as a consequence of the return of many territories to forest. Mazzoni della Stella, in his speech, explained the techniques to be implemented, not only theory, but implemented with excellent results to manage pheasant, hare, in particular through the establishment of management districts, a new reference level for productivity and conservation of populations of small game species. It is there that the hunter will be called directly to responsibility for the supervision and self-regulation of the collection and for volunteering.
In dealing with the problems of ungulates, Prof. Bernardino Ragni explained the trend of populations in Umbria also in connection with protected areas and ATCs. Here too, not a hypothesis of study, but the demonstration of a balance that, technically, it is possible to achieve. Wanting is power. Furthermore, the professor focused on the use of ungulates as a quality economic resource to be exploited, introducing the concept of Wildlife economy, the new Paleolithic collected in his essay.
Dr. Umberto Sergiacomi explained the Birds Directive in its articulations and the repercussions on national regulations and on the discipline of regional hunting calendars.
From all the interventions it emerged the need to know and take a census of the fauna populations whether they are migratory or ungulate sedentary in order to guarantee a constant and at the same time conservative collection of wildlife.
The work was concluded by the National President Osvaldo Veneziano who measured himself with the attempt to bring the sector interventions to a common project, in order to promote an organic, contextual, integrated programming of work in support of activities for enrichment and conservation of the wildlife heritage of Italians and beyond. From Umbria a message of concrete hope for better hunting.
Thanks for the participation to the President of ATC Perugia 2, who could not participate due to personal commitments and sent Mr. Morosi, to the President of ATC Terni 3 Leonardo Fontanella, to Mr. Sauro Rossi representing the CIA, and to the Regional Councilor, Fernanda Cecchini, who, due to commitments that cannot be postponed, previously undertaken, was unable to be present at the works.
