The meaning of the day
From agreement to action: rebuilding the biodiversity! This is the theme of World Biodiversity Day 2023. Its meaning is clear: it is not enough to protect existing heritage, which is increasingly endangered, but to work to restore damaged or most threatened environments.
The commitment of hunters
In fact, safeguarding biodiversity does not mean excluding all human activity within it. Hunting and hunters are strongly committed all over the world, including Italy, to doing just that, through active management of the territory and its resources.
Examples to keep in mind
Some examples of what hunters do in our country?
- The environmental improvement interventions carried out and managed by hunters in different environmental contexts, which create diversified habitats and offer space for a wide range of faunal components.
- Mowing and bush clearing actions for the maintenance of mountain pastures.
- Environmental improvements in agricultural habitats of plains and hills (e.g. disposable crops)
- The recovery and maintenance of wetlands
- The recovery and conservation of species in difficulty, such as the #LIFEPerdix Project
- The protection of the territory, often the only presence and environmental surveillance in many situations of abandonment by other human activities
Without these interventions carried out by hunters, the territory would be undeniably poorer in terms of biodiversity. Hunting. Before condemning her, think!
