Cia-Farmers opposes the extension of the hunting ban to Municipalities and Regions in much larger areas affected by fires than those affected by fire, which raises fears of a further spread of wildlife, in particular of some species such as wild boars. Cia-Agricoltori therefore calls for a strong commitment from political forces to oppose the approval of these proposals. The damage caused by ungulates - underlines the organization - is always greater for farms, which have reached theexasperation, and the risks to the safety of citizens are also constantly increasing, not only in rural areas. According to the CIA on the Lucanian territory can be accommodated without imbalances and negative effects a maximum of 20.000-25.000 (today we are 5/6 times higher) heads of ungulates.
"We have quantized in recent years - underlines Giambattista Lorusso president of Cia Potenza - compensation between 3 and 3,5 million euros per year. Then there is the problem of compensation for damages that does not go beyond 20-30% of the actual value of the one detected, anchored to estimates and quotations in some cases laughable or many missed complaints as the owners or are not holders of files or because it comes to marginal companies, the damages every year are at least 10 times the amounts paid. Compensation for damage to agricultural crops is around 2 million euros (mostly fruit and vegetables, vineyards and precious olive groves), around 500 thousand euros for assault on herds and flocks by wolves and other wild animals and on average around 800/1 million for compensation for accidents and damage to cars to various vehicles and structures.
With these financial resources it is possible to implement a large project in the agro-wildlife-hunting chain integrated and sustainable that could turn a problem “into opportunity” in our region, in line with the processes of environmental and landscape requalification of the rural space, as a strength and lever for sustainable and widespread development in Basilicata. We therefore follow with great attention and support the first pilot project for the creation of a Lucanian wild boar meat supply chain, which in Picerno sees farmers already in an advanced stage of implementation through the transformation, processing and marketing of meat ".
