Il cultivated area devastated by wild boars is as wide as the province of Asti, with damage estimated for 20 million euro every year. This is how the farmers who yesterday took to the streets with their tractors to explain the damage and difficulties that these animals cause to their work. And not only that, there are no counts road accidents caused by these animals: "Every year 500 accidents, including serious ones, are reported, even on the roads of the Asti area" denounces the committee promoting the protest, the Coarp which brings together agricultural entrepreneurs from all over Piedmont.
And that yesterday December 4 organized the protest in numerous municipalities between the provinces of Turin, Asti and Cuneo. Farmers with their tractors were present in Asti along the meadows of corso Alessandria, in Villanova, on the road to Dusino, Carmagnola, Castelnuovo don Bosco, Villanova; Chieri, Chivasso, Moncalieri, Mondovì, Poirino, Riva, Santena, Trofarello. Parades, principals and banners to denounce a now unsustainable situation: "The most damaged are the corn crops - the farmers complain -, there are areas especially in the Asti area where it is no longer possible to cultivate it ».
With damage that does not only affect agriculture: "Corn is the main food used to feed livestock, if it is scarce, even the farms go into crisis ». Stefano Gemello, on behalf of the farmers, explains: «We demonstrated at the Giro d'Italia so that our problems were visible and we have a petition in progress to present to the Region. Let's ask professional management of this emergency, which cannot be entrusted to hunting alone. Not all farmers are hunters.
And we cannot solve the problem alone in self-defense ». Farmers explain of farms forced to close, of young people who would have undertaken this profession but who find themselves unable to work. In addition to corn, wild boars devastate the fields of wheat, vegetables, even peppers. «They are more and more and more and more hungry, there is not even an electrified network to stop them. And in any case we do not intend to transform the rural landscape into a set of grids ». (The print)
