Extend the self-defense of farmers in the contain wild boars also to family members and employees, as proposed on several occasions by the Cia Italian Farmers of Tuscany, it is actually possible. The extension was in fact introduced by the Emilia Romagna region: thanks to a recently approved provision, the owners or tenants of the funds are allowed to use their family members or employees and two trusted assistants in limiting the species, to intervene in 'self-defense' for the containment of wild boars and wild animals. In Tuscany - reminds the regional CIA - over 75% of farmers do not have a firearm license, for which granting the possibility of containing ungulates only to owners or handlers is very limiting.
For this reason, as we have repeated many times it is necessary to extend this possibility to other subjects as well which gravitate to the same farm: it would be an help, albeit partial, in limiting the increasingly evident and harmful presence of wild animals in crops and farms. All the reasons put forward to date by the Region of Tuscany, therefore, lapse with the provision adopted by theEmilia Romagna.
In Emilia Romagna, the provision also allows to farmers until now authorized by the provincial police, to exercise self-defense on the land under management and to be exempted from the obligation to obtain a specific qualification for the wild boar species as over the years they have gained the knowledge and skills now required. For those who request it and who have never implemented self-defense - explained the CIA Emilia Romagna -, on the other hand, it will be necessary to acquire the specific authorization after attending a course and passing the relative exam (Source: CIA Tuscany).
