A support and a concrete answer to all Tuscan pig breeders - especially the native ones - raised in the wild or semi-wild. In fact, a 4 million euro call for tenders for 2021 is on the way to be used for the construction of suitable fences, capable of limiting interactions between farmed animals and wild ungulates (mainly wild boars) potential vectors of diseases such as Aujeszky's disease and African swine fever.
“We believe it is strategic to preserve the local pig production chain more attentive to animal welfare, supporting actions that allow companies that raise pigs in the wild and semi-wild to reach adequate levels of biosecurity - said the vice president and councilor for agri-food Stephanie Saccardi - The moment is particularly delicate and for this reason we have decided to give concrete help to all the breeders of indigenous pig breeds, and among these there are also the many breeders of the Cinta Senese PDO, certified and quality meat.
It is an aid that confirms our willingness to keep and to protect farms whose primary objective is the welfare of the animal and at the same time the care of the environment and therefore ultimately sustainability. Biosecurity, i.e. the implementation of all procedures to maintain or improve the health situation of our farms, is a priority and a value to be built every day and store with great care". All Tuscan companies that meet the requirements included in the gang, which also fixes the intensity of the support and the maximum (€ 200.000) and minimum (€ 5.000) contributions.
