With thecovid emergency which for months has reduced the presence of man in the open, wild boars proliferate, with an increase of 15% invade cities and countryside from north to south of Italy. This is what emerges from Coldiretti's estimate that underlines how wild boars have reached the record figure of 2,3 million specimens even in the cities in search of food among the waste and even in the courtyards of houses with obvious health risks. The herds - underlines the Coldiretti - they push ever closer to homes and schools, to the parks where children play, destroy crops, attack animals, besiege stables, cause road accidents with deaths and injuries and scratching through the garbage with dangers for the health and safety of people.
The situation has become unsustainable in the countryside with damage of at least 200 million euros per year to agricultural production but - underlines Coldiretti - it is also compromised the environmental balance of vast territorial ecosystems in areas of naturalistic value with the loss of both animal and plant biodiversity.
Without forgetting the danger of the spread of diseases highlighted by the same Surveillance and Prevention Plan for 2021 published by the Ministry of Health which reiterates how wild boars have a fundamental responsibility for the spread of African Swine Fever (Psa) and therefore one of the necessary measures in Italy is the numerical management of the population of these animals. Over eight out of 10 Italians (81%) - according to the survey Coldiretti / Ixè - they think that the wild boar emergency must be tackled with the use of killing, especially by hiring specialized personnel to reduce the number.
