Strong and full support comes from Coldiretti Umbria to the initiatives that the Regional Councilor for Agriculture Roberto Morroni is putting in place to counteract the "Plague of wild boars", an increasingly serious problem both for the agricultural world and for the safety of citizens, on which the Agricultural Organization has been fighting for years. The resolution of 19 February adopted by the Regional Council - explains Coldiretti - aimed, among other things, at reducing the intervention times for the damage containment activities of the wild boar species, represents a first important signal that it acknowledges the uneasiness and concerns of farmers now exasperated by a situation out of control, which deserves to be managed with decision, without any delay.
We needed - affirms the regional president Coldiretti Albano Agabiti - of these first concrete signs to reverse the situation; for our part we will continue tirelessly with proactive actions to support the work of the Regional Council to further manage the phenomenon and secure the crops, avoiding the closure of companies and abandonment of campaigns. Indeed, the unbridled proliferation of wild boars - Agabiti reiterates - puts at risk beyond the environmental balance of vast territorial ecosystems, the very presence of farmers especially in inland areas, and with it the constant maintenance work that guarantees protection from hydrogeological instability. Our goal - adds Agabiti - is to do business by producing for citizens and not for harmful wild animals..
It is time therefore to put in place all those measures useful to put a stop to the phenomenon, considering that their number has continued to increase over the years. The wild boar problem - Coldiretti recalls - as well as compromising the activity of many agricultural enterprises throughout the region, is turning out to be an increasingly pure threat to public safety, with accidents occurring on the various communication routes and the presence of ungulates in inhabited centers, also with the risk of spreading diseases such as African swine fever. Coldiretti Umbria, with a view to constant defense of the agricultural world, presented Councilor Morroni with a series of proposals.
From that regarding a greater involvement and intervention of farmers in the killing, to an extension of the hunting period with modification of the hunting calendar to be aligned with that of the neighboring regions. But also the need for a more effective management of protected natural areas and a uniformity of more simplified procedures of the Atc in relation to emergency interventions, up to the recognition of compensation for the full damage. Finally, the creation of a traced and controlled supply chain of wild boar meat with direct enhancement of agricultural activity, as an opportunity for growth and work.
