Wild boar emergency. The overall direction of the containment and sampling actions are entrusted to the Prefect as he is competent for the protection of public order and safety. It is one of the requests contained in the document that Coldiretti, represented by the Interprovincial Director Pisa Livorno, Francis Ciarrocchi presented to the Prefect of Pisa, Giuseppe Castaldo. In the background is the recent demonstration that was held in Florence with 300 farmers who protested for the excessive presence of wild boars. With the Covid emergency that has reduced the presence of man in the open for months, wild boars that invade cities and countryside of the entire province proliferate, with an increase of 15%.
The flocks are getting closer and closer to homes and schools, to the parks where children play, they destroy crops, attack animals, besiege stables, cause road accidents with deaths and injuries and scratch around in the rubbish with dangers for the health and safety of people. Coldiretti has also compiled a list of the most dangerous roads where motorists are more likely to encounter one or more wild boars during transit. These are the provincial 13 "of commerce", the regional Val di Cecina, the 68 of the Four Municipalities in the stretch that leads from Monteverdi to Suvereto, the Fi-Pi-Li and the Tosco Romagnola Est. "Thanks to the Prefect - comments the Director Ciarrocchi - for his great availability and sensitivity towards a problem which, even in the province of Pisa, is extremely topical.
In recent days we have presented a map of the most dangerous roads where motorists are most likely to encounter a wild boar. The uncontrolled presence of wild boars is no longer just a problem for farmers and agriculture. It is a community emergency ”. Coldiretti asked, in a document shared at national level through an unprecedented action, that the Regions coordinate closely with the State and work resolutely to implement the planned control and containment measures for the wild boar species, so that:
farmers can submit a request for intervention pursuant to resolution n ° 515 of 10/05/2021, approved by the Regional Council of Tuscany and proceed directly to the capture of the harmful, in compliance with the provisions in force, but with speed and bureaucratic constraints reduced to a minimum; the coordination of the containment and withdrawal actions is the responsibility of provincial police; farmers are assisted by the police themselves, by voluntary hunting guards, but can delegate the activities to qualified hunters registered in the appropriate regional register; the hunting calendar is extended to include the months from September to January; the meat of the animals is destined for charity in compliance with safety standards or is valued in support of the local economy; that the overall direction of these containment and sampling actions is entrusted to the Prefect as "competent for the protection of public order and security (Source: Coldiretti).
