Il Italian Wood Pigeon Club conducted an interesting study in Mesola wood, in Park of the Po Delta (in the province of Ferrara to be precise) to deepen the migration of the species along the north Adriatic coast of our country and wintering. The information refers to the 2018-2019 season. Based on the analysis, despite minimal participation in monitoring in the first year, the site effectively lent itself to monitoring phenology.
Very interesting, then, was the comparison between the migration itself and that of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. An attempt was also made to increase knowledge combining three typical existential periods of the wild wood pigeon that is the period of the migration concomitant with the stop-over period and the wintering in those places like the Mesola wood.
The Club wanted to thank in particular Stefano Zannini, representative of the management body for the parks and biodiversity of the Po Delta, whose collaboration in the project was very precious, without forgetting the voluntary contribution of the authorized hunters in the existing pre-park areas. The work will certainly be useful as a current and future study for an even more accurate knowledge of wood pigeons and their habits, primarily those found in the regions of northern Italy.
