La early closure of the hunt in Tuscany after the decision of the State Council there is still a lot of discussion. The limitation concerns several species of birds, with a reduction of fifteen days from hunting calendar 2018-2019. To launch the last appeal to find a solution was Alessio Spinelli, mayor of Fucecchio and president of the Consult of the Padule. According to the mayor, the Tuscany Region must intervene as soon as possible, at least as regards the Special Protection Areas (SPAs), resorting to all possible locations against the ordinance.
Here is what can be read in Spinelli's note: “To impose early closure even on those who have not used the pre-opening on September 1st it seems to me a really serious choice that also affects the rights of those hunters who have regularly paid the various taxes and then have fifteen days of activity canceled. We remind you that in protected areas such as the Padule not only the hunters did not enjoy the pre-opening day but rather, in compliance with national laws, until 1 October they could not hunt any species except the mallard.
It is therefore not clear why, in order to reduce the hunting period to those who have used the pre-opening, which is also a very questionable choice (15 days of hunting are removed from those who have actually used only one day), one hits indiscriminately all hunters. I also appeal to the mayors of the coastal municipalities of the Padule, who are part of the Consulta, to support my stance to protect our local traditions because if we continue on this road we will end ancient arts such as hunting and fishing in a place where traditions cited even by the poet Renato Fucini in the story Il Matto delle Giuncaie have always been practiced ”.
