Hunting: Lazio, extension to 31 January for 12 migratory species
The President of the Lazio Region Polverini signed the deed proposed by the Councilor for Agricultural Policies and Valorisation of Local Products, Angela Birindelli, which authorizes the extension to 31 January 2011 of the closure of the hunting exercise in Lazio. The decision includes the following species: Mallard, Gadwall, Wigeon, Codon, Shoveler, Teal, Garganey, Pochard, Tufted Duck. To these are added three species of thrushes: Cesena, Bottaccio thrush and Sassello thrush.
"With this decision we wanted to standardize the hunting calendar of our region with that of the neighboring regions (Tuscany, Umbria and Marche)", declares the commissioner Birindelli who adds "thanks to this measure, therefore, the disproportions between the programs in act in the regions adjacent to ours, with which protocols for the exchange of hunters are activated, and the disadvantage conditions that weighed on Lazio hunting activity are eliminated ”.
Satisfaction is expressed by the president of the Agriculture Commission, Francesco Battistoni, who observes how the change is "expected by the hunting world and improves the calendar in accordance with both the provisions of the law and respect for the environment and migration periods. and reproductive wildlife. An intervention that takes into account technical-scientific documents and the objective and third opinion of the bodies responsible for supervising the hunting activity ”he concluded. In fact, since the hunting of migratory birds has to end in the middle of the winter season, the decision to extend the hunting exercise in the final part of January represents an "acceptable compromise", the limit of which was suggested to the national legislator by the National Institute itself. of Fauna Selvatica (today Ispra) at the time of drafting the law 157/92, whose principles were fully incorporated by the regional legislator in Regional Law no. 17/95.
