Federcaccia, some reflections on the situation of the Italian Venatorial Calendars and the importance of data collection.
From the ordinance of the Council of State on the hunting calendar of Liguria a reflection on the importance of the correct path of scientific motivations and of the collection and processing of data on samplings. If the recent ruling of the Council of State on the roe deer harvesting plan in the province of Genoa resulted in a new setback in the troubled Ligurian hunting season, the different epilogue given by the same administrative justice body to the recourse to the regional hunting calendar some week ago allows some reflections that we want to share with hunters. Once again, the correctness of the positions that Federcaccia has always supported through its Bird Migration Office, shared in FACE Italy and also reconfirmed by the European Union, has been demonstrated. The hunting calendars can deviate from the ISPRA opinion by providing valid technical scientific reasons in support, and the European KC documents and the Interpretation Guide are the bases on which to base the hunting seasons. In this way it is possible to keep the start and end dates of the sampling foreseen by the 157/92 and for only 3 species it is necessary to use regional data.
The legitimacy of the use of the overlapping decade was once again confirmed, which instead is not contemplated by the ISPRA Guide to hunting calendars and in the consequent opinions provided to the Regions, which instead allows for many species to maintain the season from the 3rd Sunday of September until January 31st. However, there is another important aspect that emerges from the favorable decision of the Council of State and from the calendar: the importance of the study on hunting cards and the processing of data on sampling, which the Liguria Region had carried out by the University of Genoa. and that the FIdC Migratory Birdlife Office, in collaboration with the ANLC Legislative Technical Office, has assessed, consequently proposing the interpretation then present in the Resolution, regarding the species Song Thrush.
This result reconfirms that all Italian Regions should process the data of the hunting cards and that hunters must faithfully fill in this document, convinced that it is not yet another bureaucratic fulfillment for its own sake, but an important tool in support of the activity. hunting. Success in Liguria came thanks to these data and their correct processing. It follows therefore a principle demonstrated at this point: the data prove the hunters right and the hunters must collaborate both in their collection and in their elaboration.
