In addition to the ban on hunting in the almost 1.400 hectares of land set on fire on Monte Serra (Pisa), as already established by the law of the Tuscany Region in similar cases, now the regional council has approved a total ban on hunting even in an area of another 1.000 hectares adjacent to the one destroyed by the flames that started on 25 September. It is the first time that hunting has been banned even in the land around those that have burned down, a kind of "buffer zone" that can allow surviving animals to find new shelters and a new habitat to live in.
The only exception is the hunting of ungulates which remains forbidden in the burnt land but can continue, according to the hunting calendar, in the new buffer zone. “We felt it was our duty to safeguard the fauna and we took on this responsibility”, comments the president of the Tuscany Region, Enrico Rossi.
The measure was illustrated in Pisa, at the headquarters of the Province and civil protection, in via Nenni, by the regional councilor for agriculture and forests, Marco Remaschi. With him was also the president of the Province of Pisa Giulia Deidda, mayors and councilors of the affected municipalities. (24 Paws - The Sun)
