On the occasion of world biodiversity day 2020, which is celebrated Friday May 22, dedicated to the theme "Our food, our health and our biodiversity", UNA Onlus Foundation (Man, Nature, Environment) intends to highlight the urgency of a return to the protection of biodiversity, on the sidelines of a period, that of the lockdown, which necessarily affected the failure to control natural balances. In fact, one of the most significant threats to the protection of biodiversity was represented by the damage to the agricultural sector deriving from uncontrolled management by wildlife.
The hunting activity constitutes a fundamental aid to agriculture in this context, as it is necessary to regulate the balance and allow agricultural crops to grow up healthy and safe. The management interventions on the fauna, carried out by hunters, main actors in the protection of biodiversity, therefore represent for UNA Foundation an essential element for the protection of the agricultural sector, allowing farmers to carry out their work safely and in the best conditions.
In this regard, the Foundation has contributed through projects aimed at the wildlife census, to enhance the balance between flora and fauna, to relaunch the food chain of game in the kitchen, recovering now obsolete traditions and working on the enhancement and control of game supply chain looking for new and solid traceability criteria.
Taking the opportunity of the world day dedicated to biodiversity, the UNA Foundation intends to renew its commitment and that of the hunting world represented in it in returning the territory to live in a sustainable system, just at this moment when the increased awareness about the close connection between human action and environmental impact, highlighted by the current pandemic, has brought the environmental issue back to the center of the social debate.
