A proposal that makes you turn up your nose
As the writer Charles Baudelaire liked to repeat, those who drink only water have a secret to hide. According to Senate, on the other hand, it is the wine that should make you suspicious, as long as it is a hunter. There is a legislative proposal in the transalpine country that is causing considerable discussion: the objective of the law is to introduce a ban on hiring narcotic and alcoholic substances during the hunting trips. The reactions were certainly not long in coming.
The reaction of the hunting world
According to Willy Schraen, number one of the Fédération nationale des chasseurs (the national federation of hunters), is a brutal proposition because the message of a hunter who leaves home in the morning with alcohol in tow even before starting the joke. This image, again according to Schraen, would be more than outdated, also because only the 9% of hunting accidents in France have been caused by alcohol-related incidents, a percentage that has been steadily decreasing for years.
Gap to fill
In addition, the measure is reserved for hunters only, forgetting, for example, that anyone who is drunk and maybe riding a bicycle could be equally dangerous. According to the reasoning of the transalpine Senate there would be instead a gap to fill, given that the state of drunkenness when cycling is punished by the Highway Code, while there would be none of this in relation to hunting trips. It is safe to bet that the forthcoming discussions of the proposal will be just as heated.
