Hunt in Bergamo: there is a climate of controversy between Federcaccia and the Province; President Pirovano's criticism of wild boar hunters harsh, “They built a playground with wild boars”.
The President of the Province of Bergamo, Ettore Pirovano, during a press conference in the offices of the Province spoke about the wild boar problem by attacking the hunters of the wild boar hunting teams, "The hunters do not want wild boars, despite the damage they cause , are killed and contained in acceptable numbers. They have built a park in which to have fun and they want to keep it.
The controversy arises from a letter sent by the provincial section of Bergamo of the Italian Federation of Hunting to the Fidc voluntary hunting surveillance agents and, for information, to the Provincial Police Corps and the ATC Prealpino.
The President Pirovano in fact explained "The letter scolded the voluntary guards who, in collaboration with the Provincial Police, are engaged in the killing of boars: they would be guilty of creating discontent among the hunters who would find themselves having less prey to kill, and they would like to delegate full power to the harnessers on the management ".
"If so - said Pirovano -, if they want control, that's fine, but they should also take on the burden of the damage that the surplus wild boars create to the cultures and that the Province is called upon to compensate".
Continuing Pirovano also explained, “There are reports of illegal immissions of wild boars in areas where until a couple of months ago there were none, such as the upper Brembana Valley. Animals unloaded from means of transport and left free in the environment. There have also been reports (proven by filmed images) of the abusive construction of artifacts, such as walkways, to allow wild boars to pass from one area to another by climbing over gorges and crevasses (in which previously fallen wild boar carcasses were regularly found) and again of various sabotages and threats to the men of the Provincial Police ”.
Below we publish the text of the letter from Federcaccia Bergamo:

SUBJECT: CONTROL OF THE WILD BOAR POPULATION CELLARS BY FIDC VOLUNTARY AGENTS
Dear FIDC Volunteer Guards,
with this we want to draw your attention to a practice that is arousing not a little discomfort among the members who practice wild boar hunting as a team and / or in selective control.
In fact, it appears that there are quite a few killing of wild boars carried out by FIDC Voluntary Guards together with Provincial Police Officers. The most affected area would be that of Pradalunga - Cornale, even in the absence of concrete reports of damage to lawns and crops.
This practice, especially close to the opening of the hunting season, is creating a strong discontent among all those hunters who every year invest time, passion and not a few money to wait for the start of the hunting season.
I believe that the role of the Voluntary Guards of our Association is more to control and prevent acts of poaching as well as to prevent the commission of violations by hunters, as well as to collaborate with the Provincial Police, but without conducting behaviors that could lead to fractures in the hunting world and within the Association.
As President of the Provincial FIDC I therefore invite all the Volunteer Guards to refrain from killing wild boars in the areas where hunting is carried out as a team or in selective control (except of course in the case in which they operate as a hunter in regular team and not voluntary guard) as well as from setting up feeders and pasture points without prior agreement with the team leader of the beltlai team competent for the territory.
I note that the Federcaccia's address would be that of the full management of the wild boar by the hunters, with the limitation of the intervention of the Provincial Police agents to those areas where it is not possible to hunt wild boar: the killing by the Volunteer guards FIDC, therefore, contrast with the line of the Association.
Any conduct contrary to what is required will therefore be taken into due consideration when applying for renewal of the Voluntary Guard decree.
Cero in your active collaboration and grateful for the services performed, we send our best regards.
The President
Lawyer Lorenzo Bertacchi
