Hunting: Parco Foreste Casentinesi, the presidential candidate Santini, "Where is the problem if I am a hunter?"
The candidate for President for the Casentinesi Forest Park, Luca Santini, is a hunter; the reply to some doubts that arose regarding his candidacy for the office. In support of Luca Santini's candidacy for the presidency of the Casentinesi Forest National Park, the president of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi and the president of the Emilia Romagna Region Vasco Errani have again sent to Minister Clini the letter of support for an appointment that really expresses the will of a territory in its entirety.
Mayor Luca Santini in a note sent to the press declares "should I be appointed President of the Park, I would like to underline that the goal will be to safeguard the interests of all, not only those of the territory and the populations who live there, but of the entire community, as the Protected Area is a world heritage and our park is certainly an excellence in terms of biodiversity and protection of natural environments, an example for all of the Sasso Fratino Integral Reserve.
After all, the same appointment made by the Minister of the Environment gives a national park president in itself a role of national importance, especially with a ministry that is working intensively on the protection of biodiversity. My mandate as mayor is now coming to an end and I have no intention of reapplying, but the experience as a local administrator has allowed me to come into contact with those populations and those environments that have made the history of the park and the territory.
Concerns related to belonging to the category of hunters have been raised several times around my candidacy, on this point I would like to clarify that carrying out an activity in full legality cannot be a problem. Moreover, since I have been mayor, the commitments allow me to carry out this activity in a very discontinuous way and I imagine that, if I were appointed president of the park, given the complexity and novelty of the assignment, the time available to me would be even more reduced. .
In any case, I realize that there are also reasons of opportunity and sensitivity towards those who think differently from mine, and for this reason, if I were to assume the presidency, I would not go to carry out any hunting activity in the territories close to the Park, however, little frequented by me even now. Furthermore, I want to assure my particular commitment to counteract all forms of illegal hunting, even ethical ones, a practice which is fortunately not very common in the area, but absolutely harmful and deeply uncivil ”.
