Hunting in Modena: the Hunting Season proceeds regularly between hunting for sedentary, migratory hunts, exceptions for starling and selection of the male deer under the control of the Authorities.
Starting next week, the hunting activity for small sedentary fauna with the dog, in wandering form, which sees all the more than eight thousand Modenese shotguns engaged. From Monday 1 October, in fact, hunters will be able to choose three hunting days, excluding Tuesdays and Fridays when the "hunting silence" begins, while the first two weeks of activity (the sedentary hunt began on September 16) took place with the limit of two fixed days per week. And the proper conduct of the hunting activity is monitored by the agents of the Provincial Police in addition to the State Forestry Corps, some nuclei of Gev, Gel, voluntary guards of the environmental and hunting associations and the ATC guards (see press release n.701) .
It is also possible to hunt the starling, a particularly harmful species for orchards, "even if - underlines Giandomenico Tomei, provincial councilor with responsibility for wildlife policies - the limitations imposed by the community directive are so severe as to practically prevent the activity from being carried out, with very serious consequences for our agriculture. However, to cope with any emergency situations reported by farmers, the Province ensures an effective and timely implementation of the control plans ».
The selection hunt for male fallow deer also began in September, while on 16 September the wild boar hunt began in collective form with the methods of hunted and turned to continue until 31 January.
These are the main dates that this year mark the provincial hunting calendar, without neglecting the most important novelty represented by the opening, for the first time in the Modena area, of the selection hunt for male deer which kicks off on Saturday 6 October. On the other hand, the selection hunt for male roe deer has already started in August according to new methods of communicating the outputs to streamline the procedures.
In fact, as Tomei points out, «a more efficient management of the ungulate selection activity allows a better protection of our agriculture, especially in the mountains. For this reason we have also launched a new computer system that makes the procedures relating to censuses, sampling plans and access to all data easier ”. The provincial controls, the sanctions - respect the safety distances from houses and roads. A hunter's shotgun was confiscated for not respecting the shot limit in the tank. This is only the latest intervention, which took place in Spilamberto on Thursday 27 September, carried out during a check by the provincial police.
In the pre-opening period from 1 September to 15 September, 56 checks were carried out with ten reports, especially for dog training in an unauthorized period, and two reports of crime.
In the hunting period from September 16 (opening of the sedentary) to date, 495 checks have been made, 16 reports, mainly for violation of distances and for activities in prohibited areas, as well as two reports of crime.
“The main problem - underlines Emanuela Turrini, commander of the Provincial Police - remains, however, the failure to respect the safety distances, often the cause of complaints that the Provincial Police receives from citizens during the hunting season. Up to now, 25 reports have been received for the presence of hunters near the houses, all in the plains and low hills ”.
In the event of non-compliance with the safety distances (100 meters from homes, 50 from roads and 150 when shooting in the direction of a house or road), an administrative fine of 206 euros will be imposed.
A total of 24 agents of the Police Corps of the Province are involved in the correct carrying out of the hunting activity, in addition to the State Forestry Corps, especially in the mountains; some groups of Gev, Gel, voluntary guards of the environmental and hunting associations and the three ATC hunting guards also collaborate.
The agents also check compliance with the hunting ban regime in protected areas (about 60 thousand hectares), in those parts of the countryside that the Municipalities have dedicated to the development of regulatory plans, in which hunting is prohibited, and in rural areas close to towns where the mayors have banned hunting.
