Hunting in Abruzzo: the regional councilor Febbo replies to the affirmations of the councilor Acerbo, asserting that he "shows ignorance", "criticizes without reading the documents and is confused".
From the councilor for hunting, Mauro Febbo, we receive and publish. "The always punctual Maurizio Acerbo was missing from the chorus of protests and spurious attacks against the work of the regional council and myself but, once again, blinded by his fundamentalism, completely misses the shot, revealing a sensational ignorance".
"In his criticisms, ancillary to the request for an opinion from the College of Statutory Guarantees, on the resolution on compliance with Article 13 of the Statute, of the Regional Council Resolution No. 605, of 1 September 2011, and the related Notice" General guidelines for the management of wild boar populations and general principles for the management of deer and roe deer populations ", Acerbo proves that he is not aware of the facts and above all of the acts".
“So here I am having to respond to another pathetic political attack. Acerbo should know that the guidelines (which do not constitute a regulation) were drawn up in concert with the technicians and the councilor of the branch of the four provinces, over a year ago with a work that lasted for several months ".
“The guidelines have become necessary for a correct management of the populations of ungulates (Deer, Roe deer and Wild boar), from the Marches upwards all the regions have an appropriate regulation. These guidelines allow the Provinces to prepare their own uniform regulations for the whole regional territory so that on the basis of these it is possible to correctly manage the ungulates ”.
"This does not mean, as instrumentally understood by the councilor Acerbo, practicing more or less indiscriminate killing on ungulates, especially on deer and roe deer, currently not huntable in Abruzzo, but a correct management of wild populations for the purpose of a balanced relationship between them and the agrosilvopastoral realities as well as with other wild species ".
“Management takes place correctly when: the size of the populations, their structure (sex and age classes) and their dynamics (censuses) are known; the agrosilvopastoral densities (no. of individuals present in a given territory that are compatible with the agro-silvo-pastoral activities) and biological densities (no. individuals in equilibrium with the environment) are fixed; on the basis of the aforementioned elements, a multi-year management plan is drawn up which includes the indications for a correct management of the species concerned, and can only be activated after the mandatory and binding opinion of ISPRA ".
"Since at the moment no form of management as indicated above is carried out (the consistency of these animals in the territory is not known even at the level of estimation, also due to attitudes not always available on the part of the managers of the protected areas), in the region they pay today about 4 million a year for damage to agriculture and animal husbandry. We could, and had to, do all this for 10 years to be ready to face the problems with solutions, as the other regions of the center-north have done ”.
“The councilor Acerbo could also spare the demagogic reference to Bambi, as the whole scientific, technical and agricultural world, as well as hunting, have known well and for years the reality that does not allow the aforementioned soft toys to be shot. The guidelines allocate ample space to the training and acculturation of operators in the sector (hunters, farmers, technicians and volunteers) ".
“With regard to the boar restocking joke, only extreme misinformation can be the cause. In Abruzzo it is not allowed by the laws in force, and in fact it has not been practiced for at least 20 years. To meet the confusion of my colleague Acerbo I want to inform him that the technical staff of the Management is available at any time to illustrate the reality of things ".
