Hunting and Fauna: Gorizia, in the territory the population of wild boars is still excessive and raises a serious risk for the vineyards, therefore the harvest, and the crops of the Collio.
In the territory of the Province of Gorizia there is a persistent population of wild boars in strong redundancy which risks seriously damaging the vineyards and cultivated areas of the Collio in a very important phase for the agriculture of the Isonzo area, already threatened by the drought of recent months, concomitantly with the harvest period; the provincial administration therefore decided to carry out further containment operations of the species with the involvement of the Region, the State Forestry Corps, the Territorial Areas of Hunting, and the four major trade associations. To stem the excessive proliferation of boars, in recent months the Province had already carried out killing in derogation of the Hunting Calendar which, added to the normal hunting activity, had avoided a greater growth of the wild boar population as well as their spread in urban areas and close to inhabited centers especially in Gorizia in the neighborhoods in the neighborhoods of Oslavia, Piuma, Piedimonte and San Mauro from which numerous and worrying reports were received.
In recent months, the summer heat has pushed the wild boars to get closer to the cultivated areas in search of water, especially the areas of the Collio vineyards. On the issue, the provincial environmental councilor Mara Cernic explained "We held a summit with the districts, the four agricultural associations of categories, Forestry, Region and of course the provincial police to take stock of the situation and plan a coordinated strategy".
Continuing, Cernic said, “The picture is comforting because the culls in recent months seem to have reduced the presence of wild boars in the areas at risk and at the moment there have been no reports of significant damage to the vineyards. The hunters in these days are intensifying their presence close to the cultivated areas and a direct line has been established with the same farmers who call them in case of need ".
Councilor Cernic then added "With the trade associations there is a commitment to further intensify the activity if the presence of wild boars were to return to a worrying extent and the possibility of triggering a derogation is not excluded. for killing outside the ordinary season ".
