With the pre-opening the season of hunting Abruzzo 2015/2016. In the meantime, the Region draws up an initial assessment of the results of the wildlife selecontrol plan, in particular of wild boars, activated together with the Provinces.
The regional councilor for hunting, Dino Pepe underlined that "the strategy adopted by the Region and Provinces to counter the emergency boars had the first results ".
“The data, especially those from Teramo and Pescara, - explains Pepe - are starting to be significant in determining a reduction in damage in agriculture and at the same time guaranteeing greater public safety and security for citizens”.
According to the commissioner Pepe, the Province of Teramo, which first started the culling (on May 16, 2015), thanks to the 370 animals culled, found an average decrease of 26% in damage to crops compared to 2014, with peaks of over 45% in July. In Pescara the number of wild boars killed has tripled compared to last year (297 in 2015) with a consequent sharp decrease in claims for damages ”.
“Even the Province of Chieti - continues the councilor for hunting - has communicated a net increase in killing: in the Chieti-Lanciano macro-area there were over 200 while in the Vasto area about 130; both figures are up sharply compared to 12 months ago. Slightly different situation for the Province of L'Aquila which, although late, managed to start the plan selecontrol thanks to the commitment of the new President Antonio De Crescentiis, with the killing of over 90 animals ”.
Finally Pepe concludes, “Thanks to the comparison and collaboration with the hunting world we have taken the right path to ensure a balance between the presence of wild boars and the regional territory; however, attention remains high, so much so that a few days ago I sent a letter to the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Maurizio Martina, also asking for an intervention by the Government to counter the emergency due to wildlife affecting Abruzzo and other regions Italian ".
