In recent days, the amendment to the Regulations for the wildlife-hunting management of ungulates was published in the BURA which provides for the possibility of to hunt selectively deer and roe deer in order to control the persistent populations on the regional territory; apparently the change was not liked by the ex-regional councilor of Maurizio Acerbo who in his own note harshly attacks the regional administration.
We read in Acerbo's note: "In the past legislature several times the then councilor Mauro Febbo under pressure from some hunting associations had tried to introduce deer hunting in Abruzzo and roes. And every time it had been blocked by the Communist PRC and environmentalists, with my appeals to the college of statutory guarantees when it tried to circumvent the Regional Council and with obstructionism when it tried to include in the regulation for the wildlife management - hunting of ungulates ".
Continuing Acerbo says, "Now that Rifondazione Comunista and Verdi are no longer in the Regional Council and instead of Chiodi there is D'Alfonso in the regulation they sell deer and roe deer among the ungulates that can be shot in what should be the Region Green of the Parks. The right failed to get Bambi to shoot, but also in this field, the PD will obviously take care of the Forza Italia program with the support of the center-right ”.
“We must ask ourselves - Acerbo wonders indignantly - what are parties that say they are environmentalists, such as M5S and Sel, which is even in the pipeline, if things of this kind pass under their noses. The modification of the Ungulate Regulations was published in BURA n.33 of 9 September with the President's Decree. A choice that seems crazy to us also considering the importance that these animals have also with regard to naturalistic tourism. Given that in a region that used to be called Green and which should focus on naturalistic tourism, it is not appropriate to open the hunt for deer and roe deer, I would like to point out that the areas with the highest density of deer are those that, according to the PATOM (Marsican bear protection action plan), must be protected ”.
“Red deer and roe deer are two species - says the former councilor - that hunting had destroyed in Abruzzo, and have been reintroduced since the 70s in parks and nature reserves. Since then the two species have gradually spread but still today there are large areas where they are still absent. In short, in no way can deer and roe deer be associated with the wild boar emergency given that the recolonization process is still underway ".
Finally Acerbo concludes, “This is a wrong, shameful decision, not by chance taken on the sly. I invite President D'Alfonso to immediately cancel an insane measure of pure hunting patronage ”.
Immediate reply from the president of the agriculture commission, Lorenzo Berardinetti, who replies to Acerbo's accusations, "The regulation for the wildlife-hunting management of ungulates is the rule adopted by the Abruzzo Region to favor the right ratio of unprotected species with respect to trophic capacity of the territory as required by Italian and European legislation ".
Continuing Berardinetti says, “I am really surprised by those who use the media to distort the objectives contained in the changes I have proposed to the aforementioned regulation, namely to safeguard and protect protected species. I would like to point out that the Abruzzo Region has not opened or authorized any hunting of roe deer or red deer but has simply implemented, through the regulation, the census methods of the same prepared by Ispra, that is, by the Ministry of the Environment ”.
Regarding the question, Berardinetti explains, "the Region only wants to detect the number of roe deer and deer, to know, precisely in which territories they insist, in what relationship they are compared to other species such as the wild boar which, by now, represents for protected species ( bear, lynx, wolf, chamois) but also for agriculture and forestry, a huge problem of survival, environmental and economic respectively. The data, collected cyclically, will be sent and interpreted by ISPRA, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, ie the most prestigious Italian authority on the subject ”.
The citizens of Abruzzo - reassures Berardinetti - can rest assured: the actions implemented by the Abruzzo Region in this field are and will always be the result of scientific methodologies, previously authorized by the structures of the Ministry of the Environment, already applied for years throughout Europe where the territories and species are managed and not abandoned and themselves ".
Finally Berardinetti replies to Acerbo, “The accusations made by the professional who is aware of the distortion of the truth for propaganda purposes only, of measures taken on the sly and for patronage purposes must be forcefully returned to the sender. These changes were approved - concluded the regional councilor, "after several sessions of the agriculture commission where, during the hearing, the requests of the agricultural, hunting and environmental world were listened to and acknowledged".
