Roe deer hunting. A tour to discover the fascinating world of the roe deer to find out which is the best season for the collection of males.
Country that you go hunting calendar that you find species when it comes to roe deer, a particularly adaptive wild, which has been able to settle in the Arctic circle but also in the Middle East. This is why making a unique speech about the hunting period of male specimens is rather complicated. To help us we think the nature of these fabulous creatures that does not change: observing the behavior of the roe deer it is therefore possible to hypothesize what would ideally be the best period for its collection. Let's find out together.
Il hunting calendar . Obviously the hunting days in each region and in all nations are determined on the basis of the hunting calendar, which should take into consideration the experiences verified by the hunters, and take into account the management logic, the needs of the species and the critical periods of the wild.
Practically all of Europe opens the roe deer hunt during the beginning of the summer season: obviously there are exceptions and the most famous are those of Great Britain and Hungary. In these countries the hunt starts well in advance, starting directly from the month of April. It is no coincidence that the wealthiest Italian hunters flock to Hungary at the end of spring: the roe deer is an excellent attraction. During this period, males "are still dressed in gray" and are commonly quite aggressive as they still go through the hierarchical phase. It is easy in this period not only to observe them but also to compare them, since they show themselves with great frequency. Slowly, as the weeks go by, the summer tawny coat overlaps the gray winter one and the male becomes particularly careful in marking his territory. It is precisely in this period that hunting is commonly opened throughout Europe: the month is usually that of May. At the beginning, hunting is generally reserved for the removal of males and usually the weaker specimens are preferred. The season is the most suitable for hunting as it is easy to meet wild animals intent on defending their territory and hunting becomes truly fruitful. This proceeds throughout the summer season and commonly ends in autumn, between late September and early October.
Love and hunting. Between July and August, tradition has it that the hunt is carried out with the practice of calling. It is in this period that the roe deer live their own mating season, and hunting with call, exquisitely technical and difficult to carry out, can prove to be particularly rewarding. It is practically impossible to try your hand at the technique without any basis as it is a difficult hunt that requires experience and patience. In fact, improvised hunters are likely to have no effect other than to annoy all the males in the neighborhood. Accompanying yourself with a hunter expert in this practice is rather interesting since it is an ancient, engaging and exciting hunt. Of course, one wonders whether hunting during the mating season cannot negatively affect the entire roe deer population. In the case of this fantastic wild game, the answer is probably no since the mating dynamics of the roe deer is individual and not collective: the sampling will only affect the specimen and not the group. It should be noted that when hunting the whistle (in this case modulated sounds are used that attract the hearing of the prey), it is usually possible to kill rather young specimens: the older ones do not bite the call, on the other hand if they have grown up and grow older there will be a reason.
From autumn onwards. After September and early October, the survival strategy of the roe it is quite clear: he enters that phase called indifference, which is indispensable for his survival. After the spring and summer efforts it is important for the male to retire and rest, abandoning himself to total tranquility. During this period he regains strength, energy and physical form. Since until the beginning of November the activity of the roe deer is reduced to a minimum, even meeting and observing it is practically impossible. Therefore, opening the roe deer hunt during the month of September is a rather questionable choice, especially if you are interested in the removal of the male. During autumn and winter, hunting is reserved for females and chicks. Roe deer in fact gather in winter groups, a situation that benefits not only the collection but also the conscious hunting: it will be easy to compare the specimens and to hunt very young male and small female roe deer equally will not be too difficult. During the month of December, on the other hand, hunting becomes more complicated: class zero, that is the roe deer cubs that are about to turn a year, begin to closely resemble the adult specimens: the hint of the stage has been thrown, the tonnage brings them closer adults and the hunter will have to pay a lot of attention.
The best month. Having said this, it seems obvious that the best season, especially in Italy and throughout Europe for the collection of the male roe deer, is without a doubt the summer, although the hunter today, while attentive to the tradition and natural rhythms of the animal, he has to submit to hunting calendars that sometimes make difficult decisions.
