Hunting: Sicily, the honorable Nino Germanà of the Sicilian Regional Assembly exposes his reflection on the situation of the Sicilian Parks, "political caravans?".
"Before thinking about expanding the territory of the Nebrodi Park and therefore allowing the entry of another 20 municipalities, we should stop for a moment to reflect on what have been, up to now, the benefits for those realities that have belonged to it since 1993, the year of its establishment. To date, the Ente Parco dei Nebrodi has been managed - in line with the very bad Sicilian custom - simply as a political bandwagon useful for placing friends and friends of friends; it has been used by politics - at all levels - to keep the clientele system alive thanks also to countless external consultants, legal assignments: in short, everything that belongs to a salary factory. Everything has been done, therefore, except to take seriously the protection of the territory. And the actions of territorial interest have, in fact, only translated into constraints for the municipalities that belong to the circuit and for the productive categories that operate within it (farmers, breeders, etc.).
Reading the statements made by the President of the Park, Giuseppe Antoci, about the cuts due to which the Authority has also experienced difficulties in dealing with ordinary expenses (such as the disbursement of salaries), I could not help but wonder how it is possible, in this moment of economic crisis that also affects our region, to think of an expansion. We do not want to be defeatists and we believe in the good will that is the basis of this ambitious project as well as we trust in the goodness that the dialogue with the new Presidency and with the Regional Government will be able to reach in order to reach solutions that allow a radical change of direction. compared to the malpractice of the past.
A new modus operandi that puts at the center of its action the respect of all the productive categories that operate in the territory (nebroide), including the hunting world, represented in Sicily by 46.000 hunters who contribute economically with about 23 million euros to which it is added. an induced that can reach 90 million euros a year, to exercise a sport recognized by the law but which is put in difficulty every day by local regulations that reduce the territory available for hunting to only a few thousand hectares. But if you really want to work in the opposite direction to that traveled up to now, there is nothing to postpone to different times: now, in fact, the law on parks is under discussion and for this reason right now we can and must intervene if there is really the will which, apparently, is not lacking in the actors concerned.
The hunting world asks that a survey be made of the areas occupied by Parks and Natural Reserves, excluding the protection constraint where it is not necessary: this will result in the lowering of the hunting pressure in the territorial hunting areas that will see the surface increase within exercising the activity. hunting, in a balanced, serene and regulated way. This will bring benefits both from an economic point of view to the productive activities of the territory and from a socio-cultural point of view for the protection of a category that, while acting in compliance with the law and being recognized and legitimized by the national law, is often considered on a par with the deplorable poaching " .
