Hunting and Fauna: the Province of Imperia takes stock of the 2012/2013 Hunting Season by census of ungulates and sedentary fauna. Bellotti, “The comforting outcome of the censuses”.
The Hunting Season ended a few months ago recorded numerous data, some of which really positive for the fauna of the extreme west, such as those emerging from the census of roe deer, chamois and black grouse, whose number of specimens on the territory is significantly increasing. The competent councilor, Alberto Bellotti, comments: "The season ended in a very satisfactory way, according to the findings of our offices: the outcome of the censuses and the number of culled animals are comforting as regards the balance of fauna in our valleys. Also in 2012 the considerable number of wild boar slaughter testifies to the large presence of ungulates, especially close to the coastal strip, a presence that we are continuously monitoring and managing thanks to specific wildlife control interventions ".
Continuing Bellotti explains, "Precisely to deal with the massive and sometimes deleterious presence of wild boars, we provide the usual help to farmers damaged by the presence of ungulates: April 15 will expire the two-month deadline to present, at our offices, the applications for the '' assignment of financial contributions for the prevention of damage to crops, in the amount of 70% for the installation of the wire mesh fence and 80% for the installation of the so-called “electric shepherd”.
Thanks to the contribution provided by the Farmers' trade associations, the shared choices made by the Administration regarding the incentive of the prevention activity have determined the possibility for the year 2012 to reach the indistinct amount of compensation for damages equal to 83 % of the ascertained damage. This fact, far from being a reason to let our guard down, allows us to believe that we are on the right path. In fact, in concert with the trade associations, we are mapping the damages suffered by farmers on the provincial territory on computer support in order to ascertain, with greater precision, the areas most affected.
These data compared with those that will emerge from the study of the hunting pressure index of each individual wild boar hunting team and with the number of related killing will allow, in the near future, even more targeted and incisive management choices for an ever better management of the territory. . As I have always maintained, instead of adhering to the claims of those who want to divide, it is necessary, with a dutiful sense of responsibility, to consider farming and hunting as an indispensable and very important resource for our territory rather than opposing each other ”.
Here are the data from the 2012 hunting season:
HUNTERS: during the 2012 hunting season, for the first time, the number of resident hunters was less than 4.000 units, given that it is accompanied by that of the average age of the same, which is increasingly higher (46% are over 60, while the 68% are over 50)
