The Province of Grosseto asks for the participation of citizens for the evaluation of the Provincial Wildlife Hunting Plan with the sending of appropriate observations and concrete indications.
To assess the environmental sustainability of the new Provincial Wildlife Hunting Plan, the SEA procedure, Strategic Environmental Assessment, has been launched, published in the praetorian register of the Province of Grosseto and easily available on the website. A fundamental part of the process is the participation of citizens, who by sending comments, provide concrete indications on the Plan itself; there is time until Tuesday 17 July to do so.
The intent of the Plan is to set up a wildlife hunting management that consolidates wild populations over the years to come and that reconstitutes areas on the territory intended for this purpose, in compliance with environmental balances. In fact, in the drafting, the Province referred to recognized good practices on the protection and conservation of fauna, in compatibility with agricultural and forestry productions.
The guidelines with which the Hunting Wildlife Plan was drawn up are basically two: on the one hand the protection of the environment and on the other the management of wild populations of hunting interest. In this context, the management of ungulates, specifically wild boar, of vital importance both for farmers and hunters, is of particular importance.
It was considered necessary to completely review the areas in which the presence of this animal is tolerated, with a view to seeing wooded areas as suitable, while in the other areas it plans to implement all the necessary actions to minimize its impact on 'environment.
The objective of environmental protection is pursued thanks to the institutes that preserve specific botanical and faunal peculiarities, through the defense of species that have particular conservation problems, such as the Italic hare and roe deer, the wild cat and the Occhione.
One of the priorities considered is the utmost respect for endemics, in particular, it is essential that the territorial management units of these species are not divided, but evaluated as a whole considering the conservation needs of the resident populations.
The proposed Hunting Wildlife Plan and the start of the SEA procedure are available on the website of the Province of Grosseto, in the section of the Praetorian Register; Observations can be sent by Tuesday 17 July to the address: Nature Conservation Service, via Trieste 5, Grosseto.
