Hunting and Fauna: Novara, “Class Action” of Novara farmers to combat the damage caused by wild boars; 160 farms participating in the initiative.
160 farms in the Novara area have joined the spontaneous committee «enough boars». To try not to succumb to the damage caused to the crops, they joined together to promote a collective compensation action: «We contacted the Nicolini-Cantù law firm in Milan, which specializes in agricultural law - says Nicola Botta, from Bellinzago -. The first step taken by our companies to obtain compensation was the sending of a registered letter to all institutions ». Farmers are asking for "the blocking of the prescription for the oldest reimbursement applications dating back to 2006 - adds Igino Zinna, from Gargallo - and a concrete commitment to reduce the wild boar population". Indeed, many would like to eliminate it completely from the territory "because it is dangerous and not autochthonous": "The contact of the wild boar with the dairy cows can cause the viral death of the animals engaged in the production of food for human sustenance - says Lucia Comazzi, breeder of Marano Ticino ».
After the summit coordinated on Tuesday by the prefect, something seems to have changed: "I asked Atc1 Ticino, a hunting area in Novara - says the farmer from Pombia Sandro Pistocchini - an urgent intervention to kill a wild boar that was causing damage and the team containment occurred after an hour. In the past more than a month went by »». Meanwhile, the spontaneous transversal committee also adheres to the petition promoted by the three agricultural trade associations: "We ask the competent bodies to implement all the necessary actions to solve the problem of the excessive presence of wildlife that jeopardizes agricultural activities".
