In the province of Grosseto there is a wild boar emergency: a farmer implements a strong protest and after yet another assault on his animals, he hangs the carcasses of the mauled lambs on the fence posts.
It is a sensational form of protest by a farmer from Roccalbegna, in the province of Grosseto, exasperated by the umpteenth slaughter of sheep suffered by wild boars. The farmer does not believe in the tale of the assault of the wolves and blames the large herds of wild boars that, starving, attack their animals; within a year, the farmer denounces the killing of at least fifty head and has decided to put the remains of the dead lambs on the fence on the road in order to draw people's attention to the problem.
The farm in question is located in Roccalbegna (GR) in the area between Santa Caterina and Murci, the latter fraction of Scansano; the farmer tells of the attacks on his flock by wild boars which have lasted for a long time and which in the months of March and April alone resulted in the killing of at least thirty sheep.
The farmer says he hung up the carcasses of some lambs mangled by wild boars in the early morning and then took up position to observe what was happening and at dusk he noticed a herd of about fifteen wild boars arriving to feed on the hanging carcasses. The breeder's protests are also directed against the dogs of hunters that he does not allow on his property.
According to the ASL veterinarian, who intervened together with the Forestry Guards to force the farmer to remove the exposure of carcasses, it is not clear that the aggressors were actually the wild boars therefore it is necessary to analyze the carcasses to know which animal is responsible.
The municipal administration was also interested in the case of the breeder targeted by wild boars to realize the actual situation and possibly remedy it.
