In the last session of May 27 last the Outgoing regional council did not approve the hunting calendar 2019-2020, and consequently the selection hunting plans, including those of wild boar and roe deer. To report it is Luigi Genesio Icardi, mayor of Santo Stefano Belbo, just elected in the renewed Regional Council for the colors of the League. "On behalf of the Municipality that I administer and of the 51 Municipalities gathered in the Association of Municipalities of Moscato - explains the mayor - I underline that, not wanting to deliberate on the hunting calendar for 2019, the outgoing Regional Council is putting vital sectors of Piedmontese agriculture at risk.
The surplus wildlife population is causing very important damage throughout the wine production area, in some cases even compromising 50% of the production expected for the next harvest. Similar situation in hazel, another fundamental resource of our agriculture. In addition to this, the wild animals that increasingly numerous and especially at night roam along our roads represent a great threat to motorists and motorcyclists, who risk running into dangerous accidents. Finally, the hunters are also mocked, who have already produced the documentation and paid the fees due for the selection hunt and will not be able to do it, thus having direct and immediate damage to it too ”.
"This - continues Icardi - it is a heavy responsibility of the outgoing council, because it risks undermining an important asset of the economy of our region, as well as demonstrating disinterest in the safety and protection of citizens. Since this lack of decision after the recent electoral round, it is clear that the outgoing junta is doing politics on the shoulders of farmers, citizens and hunters with the aim of not deliberating on the issue, and therefore wait for the installation of the new executive. This with the risk, or rather the certainty, of further compromising the health of our agriculture. This is the most serious aspect of the story! ”.
“I therefore ask directly the outgoing governor Sergio Chiamparino and the councilor for Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing Giorgio Ferrero, to unblock the situation as soon as possible, for example by urgently calling an extraordinary council meeting to approve the necessary measures to protect our agriculture ”. “It is perhaps superfluous to remember - concludes Icardi - how all the other regions have already done so and that in Piedmont the picking of roe deer and wild boar should have started last week and ended around mid-July. Every lost day increases the damage to agriculture and the risks to the safety of traffic on our roads ”.
