Hunting in Tuscany - Today, the Tuscan Regional Council has approved the resolution for carrying out the pre-opening hunting on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September 2018.
The pre-opening will take place, in our region, as well as for many years, in compliance with scientific indications and with an eye to the protection of agricultural production. The text of the resolution provides two days of hunting. day 1 September it will be possible to hunt only by stalking the Tortora species (Streptopelia Turtur) with 10 animals that can be collected, Wood pigeon (5 animals that can be collected), Blackbird (4 animals that can be collected) and some aquatic species (Alzavola, Mallard and Garganey with 4 total animals that can be collected) .
Le aquatic species they can only be hunted inside artificial lakes or artificially flooded surfaces and outside the areas affected by SPA (Special Protection Areas), where pre-opening cannot be exercised to other species. Furthermore, the killing of Corvids (Magpie, Jay and Hooded Crow) will be allowed, only from stalking, and in derogation of the Starling. On the second day of pre-opening, on Sunday 2 September, it will be possible to shoot down from stalking, only the Starling, Magpie, Jay and Hooded Crow species in order to guarantee greater protection of agricultural production by intervening on opportunistic species.
Hunting in Tuscany - The news 2018-2019
- The most important news to highlight are the following:
for both days the scheduled time is from 6,00 to 19,00; the possibility of hunting aquatic species has been added (Teal, Mallard and Garganey); - Hunting can always be carried out from stalking even within wooded areas;
- for the Storno, the resolution provides for the possibility of hunting only within 100 meters from areas affected by vineyards, olive groves and very important novelties, also from orchards, with pending fruit, and in land where bloodless dissuasive systems are in place to protect the crops.
This latter provision had been requested for some time by the CCT in order to have a greater safeguard of agricultural production and to increase the intervention surface for the withdrawal of the Starlings compared to previous years. An overall positive text, declared Marco Romagnoli, Secretary of the Confederation of Tuscan Hunters. Our Region is in the wake of those who considered it correct to maintain the early opening of hunting without being intimidated by the continuous requests for suspension produced by the animal and environmentalist world.
Hunting for the species covered by the resolution, carried out in compliance with directives and science, it can be fully and legitimately practiced by hunters without causing any damage to the conservation of the species concerned. There pre-opening, carried out in such a delicate period for agricultural production of excellence, favors the containment of opportunistic species that cause damage to agriculture.
However, we must point out some limitations of the provision which, in our opinion, could already be overcome this year and which we hope will be able to be reconsidered in the future; specifically, we refer to the lack of possibility of killing the wild form of domestic pigeon and the Collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto) in the two pre-opening days.
We also regret not having seen the possibility of using the retriever inserted for a purely ethical and technically flawless fact; thus, with the lack of a capable auxiliary for recovery, there will be unnecessary losses of wounded or culled animals.
La Confederation of Tuscan Hunters warmly addresses everyone "good luck"!
