Hunting: the Lazio Region has approved the new Hunting Calendar valid for the 2013-2014 hunting season, novelties for the protection of some species and the new cards.
The hunting season will open on 15 September and will end on 30 January 2014. This is established by the new 2013/2014 hunting calendar approved by the Region in accordance with the Community and national regulations, which opens up some innovations in favor of greater responsibility for the management of the regional wildlife and environmental heritage. Particular attention has been given to some declining species classified as SPEC (Species of European Conservation), which need particular protection. For 12 species (woodcock, snipe, gadwall, pintail, whisk, garganey, shoveler, pochard, lapwing, quail, dove, lark), a revision of the daily and seasonal meats has been introduced, setting the maximum limit for these (not provided for all). Furthermore, as regards the quail and the turtle dove, the hunting period is set from 15 September to 31 October, in consideration of the migratory flows of these species, as requested by Ispra. The ban on ammunition with lead shot is also confirmed, also included in wetlands, while the Tufted duck has been eliminated from huntable species, in compliance with the opinion of Ispra motivated by the risk of confusion with another species (the Tufted duck. , particularly protected species).
Among the innovations introduced by Hunting Calendar 2013/2014 the adoption, on an experimental basis, of the optical reading card should also be emphasized. The data and information collected will go to implement the regional information system of the Wildlife Observatory, a useful tool for improving the management of fauna and the environment and optimizing the planning of future hunting seasons. Furthermore, the Region is activating a process that will lead to the adoption of action / management plans for the most endangered and problematic species and to the definition of the new Regional Wildlife Hunting Plan as a tool for guiding and managing wildlife and 'environment.
In giving the lines for the new hunting season, the objective that guided the concertation work was to arrive at an adequate synthesis of the opinions and requests expressed by the representatives of the Regional Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee, composed of the hunting associations and environmental associations, agricultural professional organizations and representatives of the provinces. Furthermore, the opinion of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) was also considered.
