The Hunting Calendar for the province of Modena relating to the 2012-2013 Hunting Season was approved in recent days.
The Modena provincial government approved the hunting calendar for the 15-2012 hunting season last Tuesday, May 2013, which will begin with the hunt for sedentary animals on September 16 and will close on December 2.
The pre-opening of hunting in the province, on the other hand, is scheduled from 1 September with limitations; as early as next weekend of 26 and 27 May, the selection hunt for wild boar could begin once the administrative procedures of the ATC have been completed. Furthermore, with the approval of the new Hunting Calendar, with annual validity, the hunt for male roe deer is brought forward to the beginning of June in order to better counteract the excessive proliferation of these ungulates.
The selection hunt for deer which has so far been prohibited is still in doubt, as to say of the provincial councilor for agriculture with responsibility for wildlife policies, Giandomenico Tomei, "the Province is evaluating ways to allow this activity within the year, in order to contain an increasing species that is causing various damages in particular to the agroforestry heritage ".
The new management document also contains some innovations especially aimed at protecting some species of birds considered to be in difficulty such as a reduction in hunting days for wild turtledove, red partridge and lark; on the contrary, for the species of corvids the changes made are aimed at increasing the hunting levy in order to better protect local agriculture.
As Councilor Tomei himself stated, "This calendar takes into account both regional and national legislative innovations but above all the need to guarantee a fair fauna balance with the priority of protecting agriculture. especially in the mountains and hills threatened by the proliferation of ungulates ”.
Continuing the commissioner explained, "A correct management of the hunting activity allows the safeguard of the species at risk and the control of those in strong increase which, in addition to threatening crops, cause imbalances in the ecosystem ".
The new Hunting Calendar also contains new rules regarding fox hunting aimed at ensuring greater safety for those who practice sedentary hunting during the month of January and for the dog training activity that can start as early as Sunday 26 August.
The woodcock hunt has been extended until January 20 and the blackbird hunt will end on December 27; various criteria are also envisaged for identifying the closing times and dates of the hunting sampling of migratory species.
Confirmed the novelty of last year of formal recognition of falcon hunting (allowed by national and regional legislation) for which the provisions for hunting for sedentary fauna apply.
Finally, it is specified that an unloaded shotgun means the weapon that does not contain cartridges in the magazine or even in the chamber, while for the safety distances (150 meters from the houses) buildings with collapsed roofs and not being renovated are not to be considered.
