In the first week of sedentary game hunting, like hares and pheasants, who left on 20 September, were over 450 hunters controlled by the Modena province police. No particular irregularities were detected with a single sanction issued to a hunter in Castelfranco Emilia who had approached a road. Calls from citizens (to the number of the Provincial Police 059 209525 active from 6,30 to 18,30) to report problems totaled 25, above all for failure to respect safety distances.
As Fabio Leonelli, commander of the Provincial Police, underlines, «even if in this first week of activity we have verified the substantial respect of the rules, we still receive several reports from citizens for the presence of hunters near the houses. We therefore recommend respecting the safety distances which are 50 meters from the roads and 100 from the houses while the envisaged penalty is 206 euros ".
The 15 agents of the provincial police and over 40 volunteer guards who guarantee, with the coordination of the agents, the coverage of the territory have been involved in the performance of the hunting activity.
Modenese hunters are over 4.500 plus 1.500 from other provinces. From Monday 5 October until 6 December the sedentary hunt continues with days chosen by the hunter (three per week). And from Thursday 1 October the collective wild boar hunt starts with the methods of "hunt" (minimum 15 people with several dogs) and "turn" (minimum four hunters and one dog); takes place every day, except Tuesdays and Fridays, days of hunting silence, and involves over two thousand side-by-side shotguns after having attended a course authorized by the Province.
For hunters with small sedentary fauna who frequent the areas where this type of hunting takes place, there is an obligation to wear "high visibility" clothing: each hunter is required to wear at least one item of clothing (trousers, shirts, vests and hat) in yellow or orange to be more visible, ensuring greater safety.
