The containment operations of wild boars continue in the province of Piacenza, specific interventions will be planned shortly in Valtrebbia to contain the excessive proliferation of ungulates.
In a meeting organized in Bobbio by Coldiretti in which, in addition to insiders such as the president of the local ATC 9, Giovanni Mozzi, also hunters and farmers damaged by wild boars, the provincial councilor Filippo Pozzi announced the next interventions to limit the damage caused by the excessive presence of ungulates on the territory.
Enrico Merli, from the Wildlife Protection sector of the Province, as well as the Coldiretti area secretary, Rosanna Porcari and her predecessor Andrea Poggi also attended the meeting. According to the farmers, the main damage caused by wild boars occurred on the right bank of the Trebbia, from the Gerbidi to Caminata.
As already happened for the other operations of "extraordinary collection" of wild boars carried out up to now in the valleys of the province also the next containment activities of the species in the Bobbio area will be carried out under the coordination of the Wildlife Protection Sector of the Province in collaboration with the competent ATC and wild boar hunting teams in the area as well as with the involvement of selechaters and farmers' associations. Coldiretti itself has promoted among its members the exchange of information useful for identifying the areas most subject to the harmful action of wild boars.
Containment operations will be organized in the coming days in view of the great abundance of garments this year; despite the fact that 515 wild boars were killed by hunting teams in the last hunting season, the damage to crops has not decreased.
Councilor Pozzi explained to hunters and farmers "We are arranging extra-ordinary operations for the containment of ungulates throughout the territory, an extra attention to the territories that have to live with the problems connected to mountain activities, in a year that recorded an authentic "explosion" of wild boars, and - consequently - of damage to agricultural land. The initiatives already promoted, with the precious collaboration of the ATC and Coldiretti, and the involvement of specialized operators, have brought good results ”.
In addition Pozzi asked for the maximum collaboration between farmers and ATC in order to optimize prevention and therefore identify the areas most subject to the harmful action of wild boars. In the same way, the commissioner hopes for maximum collaboration also with regard to the procedures for estimating and reimbursing damages, entrusted to the ATCs delegated by the Province, in order to compensate the damages quickly.
In particular, with reference to the extent of the damage estimates, Pozzi explained that "for agricultural associations there is the possibility of requesting a qualified appraisal (based, however, on parameters set by law), possibility subject to the advance of the deposit ".
Finally, as regards hunting, the commissioner announced “the revision of the wildlife plan and the signing of a protocol with Ispra, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, which will allow selection hunting also for wild boar ”.
