The TAR of Emilia Romagna has suspended the provision for fox hunting in the territory of the Province of Reggio Emilia.
In recent days, the judges of the Regional Administrative Court of Emilia Romagna decided to accept the request for suspension, advanced by the animal rights activists Lac, Victims of Hunting and Animal Liberation, for the provision of the Province of Reggio Emilia concerning the control of the fox population by hunting. The request for suspension is contextual to the appeal presented by the animal rights activists themselves with which the failure to implement alternative methods to hunting for the containment of foxes is contested.
Every year the ATC management plans provide for measures to contain harmful species, including the fox, in order to reduce the damage caused by the disproportionate growth of these species to the fauna, biodiversity and, not least, to the human activities such as farming.
Pending the evaluation of the merits by the administrative judges, during the hearing scheduled for October 23, 2013, it is not yet clear how the problem will be addressed given that the animal rights activists have taken the trouble to block the containment operations to the management of the species without worrying about presenting alternative solutions that can be undertaken pending the final judgment on the issue and above all without worrying about the repercussions of such a measure on biodiversity and human activity.
