Hunting Safety: The right clothing for hunting safety is a UNI standard project. Protect people engaged in hunting with suitable clothing, thus reducing the risks associated with sport hunting. This is the aim of the project “Personal protective equipment.
Protective clothing for activities that take place in the hunting field ”, which UNI (Italian National Unification Body) is currently submitting to the preliminary public investigation phase to verify the effective interest of the market in the start of regulatory work.
In the will of UNI, the investigation should precisely verify the interest and gather the skills to start the work aimed at spreading a voluntary technical standard on the requirements that the clothing worn by hunters must have to ensure safety and protection from accidents.
Hunting activity in Italy involves around 800.000 hunters. Worrying are the numbers relating to accidents. According to data from the Italian Association of Hunting Victims, from September 2011 to January 2012 there were 86 victims, including 72 hunters (62 wounded and 10 dead) and 14 ordinary people (13 wounded and 1 dead). In the current season alone, there have been 14 dead and 33 injured so far.
Alarming data attributable not only to the lack of prudence or experience, but also to the underestimation of the behaviors useful to guarantee personal safety. There is no national law that regulates the matter; there are regional regulations and provincial ordinances issued on the occasion of the publication of the hunting calendar, which however limit themselves to prescribing the use of highly visible garments without indicating their protective characteristics.
UNI's preliminary investigation will end on November 8: up to that date, all interested parties can send comments and suggestions in order to compile a regulation that meets the purpose of the project and possibly indicate their interest in participating in the discussion tables. of the future standard.
