Molise is a little known region of southern Italy, which however offers the possibility of hunting animal species including the lark, the pheasant, the common hare, the blackbird, the red partridge, the quail, the gray partridge, the turtledove and wild boar, just to name a few. The landscape and the people complete a territory to be discovered and admired.
Molise is a region of southern Italy, with a population of about 320.000 inhabitants. The surface of the region is divided almost equally between mountain areas, which occupy 55,3% of the territory, and hilly areas, which account for 44,7% of the territory.
The mountainous area develops between the Abruzzo Apennines and the Samnite Apennines. The climate is semi-continental, with generally cold and snowy winters and hot, muggy summers.
Few remember this region, as it is small and sparsely populated compared to the others.
Who were to organize a trip (of any kind) to Molise, would discover a territory that has remained almost unchanged over the centuries, where hospitality and familiarity are the main characteristics that will make the traveler feel at home.
Hunting tourism can be practiced from 1 September 2010 to 31 January 2011, while hunters not resident in Molise can be hunted from 3 October 2010 to 30 December 2010.
In particular, it is possible to hunt the following species:

d) from 19 September 2010 to 31 January 2011: teal, woodcock, snipe, gadwall, cesena, pintail, wood pigeon, wigeon, coot, whisk, moorhen, mallard, garganey, shoveler, tufted duck, pochard, lapwing, water rail , song thrush, redwing.
e) from 19 September 2010 to 31 January 2011 boar hunting is allowed in the Agri Turistico Venatorie companies.
f) from 17 October 2010 to 28 November 2010: fallow deer (Dama dama).
g) from October 17, 2010 to November 28, 2010 it is allowed to hunt roe deer, fallow deer and red deer in the Agri Turistico Venatorie companies.
For each day, each hunter can shoot two heads of sedentary game with the following limits for each species: hare one head; wild boar a head; partridge a head.
For migratory game, the maximum daily limit is set at a total of 20 heads, with the following limits per species: three head woodcock, ten head quail, ten head turtle dove, five head blackbird. Non-resident hunters in Molise are subject to the same game bag limitations as set out in the Hunting Calendars of the region of residence. Hooded crow, magpie, jay and fox are excluded from the restrictions.
Hunting can be carried out from one hour before sunrise to sunset for three days a week at the hunter's choice, with the exclusion of Tuesday and Friday considered days of hunting silence. The use of the dog is allowed throughout the hunting season in this region.
There are also Special Protection Areas (SPAs), for which it is better to read up on the methods and rules for hunting first.
Specifically, there are two locations where you can practice hunting and stay overnight.
The first is located in Località Fosse - Bagnoli del Trigno (IS), located at an altitude of 600 m from the sea. The latter has 120 hectares of woods and clearings for hunting and trekking. In addition, two large fenced areas are available to hunters for training tracking dogs and pointing dogs. Finally, it is possible to practice shooting at the fixed and mobile shape and at the target.
The second location is located in Vastogirardi (IS) and consists of about 350 hectares, where it is possible to practice hunting with pheasants, partridges, quails, rock partridges, hares and ungulates.
The locations described above are managed by two private companies, which can be contacted through a short internet search. For obvious reasons, we have chosen not to mention the names of the companies, but only the locations where they are located and the activities that are offered to hunters.
In conclusion, the Molise region is waiting to be discovered and, we are sure, you will be fascinated by the landscape and by the opportunities it offers even in the hunting field.
Have a good trip!!
I have to make a small reproach to the Molise region since I have been wanting to practice sport in the hunting season in the Molise area for some years, but I have found that it is very difficult to do so.
