The Umbria Region will allocate funding to the Provinces and Territorial Areas of Hunting to prevent and compensate for damage to agriculture.
The Umbrian Regional Council, acknowledging the proposal of the councilor for agricultural and hunting policies, Fernanda Cecchini, has approved funding for over 600.000 euros to the Provinces and Territorial Areas of Hunting to be allocated to the prevention and compensation of damage caused to crops by wildlife and wild animals as well as hunting activities.
The funds allocated to the Provinces will be used to compensate for the damage caused by wildlife to agricultural crops located within the protection oases, regional parks and state-owned areas not subject to animal husbandry or other constraints.
Instead the funds destined to the Territorial Areas of Hunting will be used to compensate the damages caused by the wildlife to crops located in the territories where hunting is allowed, in the repopulation and capture areas as well as in wildlife breeding centers.
The amount of funds allocated is approximately 609.000 euros e they refer to the damages ascertained in 2011 which according to the estimate made amount to approximately 645 thousand euros. In particular, according to the criteria of the regional regulation, the council assigned approximately 262.000 euros to the Perugia ATC, approximately 164.000 euros to the Foligno Spoleto Valnerina ATC and approximately 150.000 euros to the Terni-Orvieto ATC. Funds destined for the Province of Perugia amount to approximately 7.500 euros while for the Province of Terni approximately 25.000 euros will be allocated.
