In the province of Viterbo, the Department of Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing has placed special bins in the two Territorial Areas of Hunting for the collection of residues from the slaughter of wild boars killed by hunting teams.
In a meeting between the Councilor for Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing, Franco Simeone, and the presidents of the two Viterbo ATCs, Giuseppe Pilli and Antonino Corsini, it was decided to fully implement Article 3 of the new Regulations for the Exercise Wild boar hunting.
In fact, the article of the Regulation concerns “The management of the wild boar species is implemented by the ATCs through the establishment of territorial districts called Management Districts".
Therefore on the whole territory of both the ATC of the province of Viterbo were constituted eight districts which among their tasks also have that of disposing of the residues of the slaughter of culled ungulates by hunting teams.
Twice a week, during the wild boar hunting season, a specialized company will empty the containers of collection and then dispose of the residues at special facilities.
Simeone explained on the issue "Despite a European Community regulation allows teams to bury the carcasses on the site of the killing in special holes covered according to precise provisions, we considered it appropriate to identify alternative forms. This is to ensure that healthy and correct balance between hunting and respect for the environment and to avoid the risk of subsoil pollution ".
The commissioner continues "Our Department has invested 20 thousand euros for the positioning of special bins suitably located in the eight management districts". Simeone then, referring to the damage caused to crops by wild boars, added "The new provincial regulation wanted to establish certain rules to reconcile hunting, essential to limit the damage to crops caused by the proliferation of boars, with the protection of the natural landscape ".
Finally concluded the commissioner, “It is for this reason that we have decided to find adequate solutions to one of the major problems, consisting precisely of the disposal of carcass residues. The strong desire to preserve the territory from the risk of environmental impacts has prompted us to seek, in the folds of our small budget, the sum necessary to guarantee this service ".
