The Province of Imperia is preparing to approve the new regulation for wild boar hunting; 90% to be cut down.
The Provincial Council of Imperia will soon approve the new regulation for wild boar hunting; the start of the dog training period is scheduled for tomorrow 25 August while the wild boar hunting season will start on 3 October 2012 and will continue on 2 January 2013, the goal will be to kill 90% of the animals detected.
Tomorrow will open the period allowed for the training of dogs for hunting wild boar which will last until 9 September, during this period the hunters registered or admitted in the ATC will be able to train their hounds from dawn until 13 pm on the days of Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday; as regards the Alpine District, on the other hand, the training period runs from 2 to 9 September at the same times and days. Like wild boar hunting, dog training can also be carried out exclusively in the area assigned to the team of which the hunter is part.
The opening of the wild boar hunt is scheduled for October 3, 2012 until January 2, 2013 on Wednesdays and Sundays; the objective set by the regulation is the culling rate of 90% of the animals detected, of which 70% of young animals within 18 months and 30% of adults.
If the expected quota is not reached within the normal hunting period, the Province could extend the period until the end of January; on the contrary, if the 90% share were reached before the date of January 2, 2013, the season would be closed early.
The intent of the Province is in fact to reduce the population of wild boars persisting in the provincial territory in order to limit the damage that these animals continually cause to agricultural crops and the consequent compensation for the farmers who suffer the damage.
One of the phenomena connected to wild boar hunting would also be the abusive foraging, presumably carried out by groups of greedy hunters and poachers who thus intend to increase the populations of ungulates more than normal, thus ensuring a large number of prey every year.
On the question, the provincial councilor Gabriele Saldo had highlighted the enormous quantity of grain for zootechnical use that is sold in the province of Imperia, such as to be able to feed 50 industrial pigsties when, on the other hand, there is not even one officially in the area.
It was also observed that this phenomenon does not occur in the "deep hinterland" but in the middle hinterland, therefore the councilors Riccardo Giordano and Paolo Ceppi have proposed, in the event that the hunting teams fail to reach the set target of killing, that the the area assigned to them is reassigned to the Province and then to another team; the goal for the director Ceppi is to “obtain a positive trend in 3 years”.
Each wild boar hunting team is made up of 25 hunters as regards the ATC areas and 19 hunters for those of the Alpine District, moreover two thirds of the hunters making up the team must be resident in the province.
One of the probable novelties of the new regulation will be the limitation of joint hunting between non-neighboring teams (limited to 3 days for the whole season) and that in the event of a team split during the season, the area assigned to that team will be frozen until at the end of the season itself, except for the integration of the validity quorum established by the regulation that will be issued or the managing bodies may assign the area to the neighboring teams of the same ATC or Alpine District. In the event that the area assigned in ATC is covered by snow, hunting will be suspended, while it will still be allowed on the territory of the Alpine District.
