The wild boar containment plan comes to life. There Lazio region, on 11 December, approved the technical document that integrates the memorandum of understanding already signed by Coldiretti, Legambiente and Federparchi. In principle, agreement had already been reached on the measures to be implemented. The indication that it had come from the three associations was in fact clear. To implement, more effectively, the numerical control of the wildlife present in the regional parks, had been asked to create a single geo-referenced system for the damage produced and the launch of a communication campaign aimed at explaining, to farmers, the methods of accessing compensation and the prevention tools to be put in place.
At these measures, others are added, strongly desired above all by Coldiretti. Like the one that foresees, also for agricultural producers, the setting of traps and the subsequent sale of the captured animals. The signing of the technical document was greeted with evident satisfaction by Coldiretti Lazio. “This is an opportunity for the establishment of one controlled food chain since agricultural entrepreneurs will also be able to expand their business by requesting the establishment of game processing centers”Recalled David Granieri, number one of the regional Coldiretti. Wild boars, which have become a problem, are thus transformed into a resource.
With the green light given by the Region, ungulates, which according to an estimate by Coldiretti have caused 4 million damage to agriculture in Lazio alone, become a potential opportunity. “Farmers will be able to directly sell the animals caught at the institutes provided for by current legislation or - explained Niccolò Sacchetti, president of Coldiretti of the province of Rome - they will be able to allocate them to breeding in fenced areas ". The possibility of making money with the animals that will be captured thanks to the collaboration of Park guard, opens up interesting earning opportunities for farmers. But it is not the only measure implemented to support the sector. The protocol and now the technical document just approved, in fact, provide for simplifying the requests to access the compensation for damage caused by wild boars. The plan to control the proliferation of the species, reintroduced for hunting purposes throughout the peninsula, is now in full swing. Time will assess its effectiveness.
