The accident on the A1 in the province of Lodi sparked a wide debate that has now also involved theISPRA. According to the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, hunters are not responsible forinvasion of wild boars in our country. The institution's study was very thorough and excluded the hunting world among the factors at the origin of the growth. The spread of the wild has occurred above all along the Apennine ridge, where the mountain villages have become more and more depopulated.
Usually there is talk of crossings with examples from Eastern Europe, but this reconstruction has been denied by the institute. One of the most worrying presences is that which concerns Umbria. In fact, in this region there has been an impressive increase when compared with the 1991 data. Almost thirty years ago the Umbrian wild boar was almost absent, while today there is a massive and dangerous population.
This is why the Territorial Hunting Areas of Perugia and Terni have decided to increase the quotas for cope with the major disbursements. In the meantime, in these areas it is not possible to start the selection hunt while waiting for the Regional Administrative Court to rule on the appeal presented by the WWF (the reopening was supposed to take place on 7 January, therefore yesterday).
