After the publication of the hunting calendar and the abatement plan presented in recent days, the Marche they prepare for a change of pace in wild boar control. Institutions, agricultural and hunting associations will collaborate to contain the damage caused by these ungulates with operational, integrated and coordinated interventions, as the Councilor for Agriculture said Mirco Carloni. Region, prefectures, provincial police, territorial hunting areas, municipalities, agricultural and hunting associations, have in fact a memorandum of understanding to rebalance and contain the population. The problems triggered by the uncontrolled presence of these animals, as Carloni said, have become a public safety issue that can no longer be ignored, but must be addressed in an integrated and as decisive as possible.
The presence of wild boars has created a real emergency, especially in public areas destined to equipped green areas, and to this must be added the damage to agricultural activities and the numerous road accidents that endanger the safety of motorists and motorcyclists. A problem that, as the commissioner reiterated, affects everyone: farmers, hunters, but above all citizens. And to address it, specific resources have been made available which currently amount to 80 thousand euros, but which can be increased. The signed protocol provides for interventions aimed at contrasting the presence and reducing the population of wild boars in urban and agro-forest contexts, with direct and indirect actions. Not only selective killing is contemplated, but also other interventions, such as the elimination of possible sources of food and shelters in green areas, the use of olfactory repellents, the safety of areas frequented by citizens with electrified fences.
Among the signatories there are, in addition to the Marche Region, the Anci Marche, the Union of Italian Provinces (Upi) of the Marche, the regional representatives of Cia, Coldiretti and Confagricoltura, the Izs Marche - Umbria and the regional hunting associations. A useful protocol, according to the mayor of Ancona, Valeria Mancinelli, who spoke on behalf of Anci Marche, above all because he tries to better define who does what with administrative legal certainty. "The upstream containment actions implemented to date are no longer sufficient if these animals arrive in city parks and in the gardens of a school - said the mayor - and it is necessary to do more and quickly because the phenomenon is no longer sustainable especially in urban areas. We are therefore satisfied with the result achieved today and confident for the future". “For the provinces - added the president of the Province of Ancona representing Upi Marche, Luigi Cerioni - it is a beautiful day as they face a problem that sees them at the forefront every day.
The reports of citizens who spot wild boars even in the historical centres are now continuous ". The commander of the Marche Forestry Carabinieri Gianpiero Andreatta reiterated his firm adherence to this protocol as a starting point for managing change. “Over the years, wildlife has changed the way it relates to the territory to the point of creating critical issues that they must be faced and resolved - he said - We acknowledge that the region immediately took over the management of wildlife without neglecting the aspect of legality ". The protocol will have a validity comparable to the current regional control plan for wild boar, expiring on 31 December 2023. The subjects involved undertake to create a control room with a technical coordination group, which will be convened by the Marche Region, aimed at both produce detailed technical protocols, both to constantly monitor the results achieved, reporting annually, by January 31, for each province of the Marche.
The following will participate in the control room: a referent mayor of the Anci, a referent of the regional hunting and fishing service in inland waters and of the veterinary prevention and food safety service of the region, the head of the provincial police force, a representative of the Forestry Carabinieri, a contact person for each hunting area, a representative designated by the farmers' associations and a representative designated by the hunting associations. The control room will be able to call to participate in the meetings if required all subjects who are deemed to be able to provide contributions to achieve the expected objectives and will meet in the first session within one month of signing the protocol and therefore according to an activity plan agreed by the control room itself and in any case to the need when requested by the majority of its members.
