Within just two weeks the US state of North Carolina he made people talk about himself in as many situations and always in relation to hunting. In mid-February it was decided to authorize the hunting of moose fifteen years after their return, this time the animals protagonists of the story are the turkeys. The Wildlife Resources Commission is encouraging citizens to hunt fowl after seeing a real boom in their population. We are talking about wild turkeys, the number of which has reached the highest all-time record with 265 thousand specimens.
In a nutshell, the state commission and the National Wild Turkey Federation they agreed to organize 24 open access seminars which will take place between March and April and will address topics such as biology, hunting methods and calls that have to do with turkeys. Deforestation took off at a very rapid pace in this part of the United States during the XNUMXth century and decimated the wild turkey population in eastern North Carolina: in 1970 the total number fell precipitously, reaching 2 thousand, then growing up to the present day.
Usually the reproduction of the animal depends on favorable seasonal conditions, otherwise the weather and the situation in which the habitats are found can negatively affect growth. The year in which the most turkeys ever were hunted was 2013, when 18400 fowl were killed during the hunting season, while the following year the figure dropped to 16900 unit. As the experts have pointed out, this is not a simple hunt and many hunters face it with some discomfort: about 5% of them have managed to shoot two of them a year, while 79% were unable to hunt even one.
The seminars referred to above represent an important moment of deepening while waiting for the real hunt to begin. The meetings are open to everyone and there are no age limits for "novices", although those under the age of 16 will have to present parental permission to register. Among the subjects to be studied there will be the most effective and tasty ways of cooking turkeys. According to the point of view of the promoters, hunting is a key aspect that will help preserve wild turkeys in North Carolina.
