Poaching: Hunchback shot to poachers caught in the Alento riverbed with modified weapons and a downed wild boar. The ENPA guards, after having surprised the poachers, called the State Forestry Corps, ASL and Carabinieri as far as they were concerned.
After hours spent listening to the movements of poachers, the ENPA guards of Salerno intercepted and surprised some hunters inside the riverbed, near the Alento dam that borders the Cilento and Vallo di Diana National Park . The operation then extended to the neighboring areas, thus allowing the identification of two other subjects. The first group had recently killed a wild boar outside the allowed period. In fact, hunters are allowed to hunt ungulates only on Thursdays and Sundays.
The operation began in the early hours of dawn and lasted until the early afternoon and saw the involvement of two teams headed respectively by the deputy head of the nucleus Alfonso Albero and by the agent Rocco Caiazza. And it is precisely the latter's team that, after hearing the shots at a short distance, used the vegetation to sneak up and catch the group of poachers red-handed while they dragged the downed prey into a protected area.
Upon arrival of the team, some hunters attempted to escape, but were joined by the guards. "Unfortunately upon our arrival the wild boar had already been killed, but at least we managed to hit them hard" - these are the words of agent Caiazza - "poaching is a harsh reality and it is also hard to die." In addition to poaching, the use of unauthorized ammunition and the alteration of some of the weapons possessed by the subjects must be added. At the check, in fact, two shotguns were modified as the reducers had been removed, allowing the tank to store more cartridges than the two permitted. Only one subject does not belong to the wild boar group. The latter had parked and was hunting in the Parco del Cilento area with the aid of two electromagnetic acoustic signals, prohibited by law.
The competent ASL intervened on the spot for the checks and analyzes to be carried out on the wild boar. The final phase of the operation took place in the offices of the Vallo della Lucania Forestry Corps, where the subjects were recorded for hunting in a protected area, wild boar hunting outside the period and use of ammunition and weapons not allowed. Seven (7) rifles were thus seized, about three hundred and fifty (350) cartridges including single bullet ammunition, buckshot and shot, radio, two electromagnetic recalls and the shot down wild boar. The ENPA of Salerno thanks the State Forestry Corps and the medical staff of the ASL for their rapid intervention and the commander of the Vallo della Lucania carabieri, always diligent and precise, and underlines that the wild boar hunt is closed this year and checks on this type of hunting will be increasingly frequent from today.
