Poaching: Varese, two men were surprised by the Provincial Police while poaching wild boars stationed near a bait and using a rifle equipped with a silencer at Campo dei Fiori.
The men of the Provincial Police of Varese carried out an anti-poaching check inside the Campo dei Fiori Park yesterday, May 7, 2015 during which, at about 20.30 pm, they surprised two men while they were hidden in an abusive stalking intent to hunt wild boars illegally; in particular, the two poachers had positioned themselves at a useful shooting distance from an area specially prepared by themselves with suitable food to attract the wild boars passing through the area. Just to further aggravate their position, the two poachers awaited the wild boars armed with a carbine equipped with precision optics and a silencer, a device that is absolutely forbidden by Italian law. Once it was ascertained what the two poachers were carrying out, the agents intervened by blocking the two subjects who were then denounced on the loose both for hunting in an illegal period and with illicit weapons and means as well as for the use of the illegal silencing device; in this circumstance both the weapon and the silencer and related ammunition were seized.
Subsequent investigations regarding the arrested subjects, the men of the Provincial Police carried out checks at their respective homes, finding some irregularities regarding the weapons and ammunition they reported as well as regarding the illegal possession of some specimens of wild birds and traps for trapping some birds.
