Poaching: Grosseto, a man was caught hunting with metal laces, even a marten had ended up in the trap; reported by the Provincial Police.
In recent days, the hunting guards of the Lac, after having ascertained the presence of some metal laces along the perimeter of a chicken coop, in the municipality of Massa Marittima (GR), awaited the arrival of the alleged poacher. Inside the chicken coop there was a marten (a particularly protected species) dead and tied, hanging by a leg, probably from the previous day. Shortly after, a man arrived on the spot who, after entering the hen house was stopped by the zoophile guards who then requested the intervention on the spot of a patrol of the Provincial Police of Grosseto who seized the laces, of a trap cage found inside the hen house with bait and traces of blood probably attributable to the capture and killing of the marten, in addition to the marten itself.
The man was reported to the judicial authorities for various offenses relating to hunting (hunting in a period of general prohibition and use of prohibited means) as well as for the detention of species particularly protected also by international convention. Further investigations will be required for any liability of the land owner. The LAC expressly condemns the episode and regrets the killing of rare animals such as the marten which, in addition to being particularly protected as they are useful, are at risk of extinction.
