Poaching: Ischia, a poacher caught illegally hunting quails decides to shoot at the Enpa hunting guards.
Three Zoophile Guards, engaged in anti-poaching checks, were attacked in the woods of the Rotaro in Ischia by a poacher who even shot him a few shots. In the woods, the ENPA volunteers had located a "quail call", an illegal call very common among poachers. After about a couple of hours, a man with a covered face showed up on the spot and, accompanied by a pack of dogs, started shooting at the birds. At that point, the Enpa Guards approached the poacher, but he took up his rifle, aimed it at the three and fired, fortunately missing "the target". The ENPA volunteers had the coldness to understand what was happening and the readiness to find shelter behind a wall before the situation worsened. The poacher, having exploded the shot, fled and lost his tracks.
“Of the fact - explains Antonio Fascì, national manager of the Enpa Zoophile Guard Service - we immediately informed the Carabinieri and the State Forestry Corps who took action to identify the unknown attacker; among other things, it seems that the attention of the investigators was focused on a local offender. The accusations against him could be very serious including, in addition to the hunting offenses, also the attempted murder. Among other things, it is not the first time that something of such gravity has happened; in this I see very concrete the risk of a possible, dramatic escalation between poachers and Enpa Zoophile Guards ”.
